Summary

This proposal will allow the continued levy by the intermediate school district of special education millage previously approved by the electors and restores millage lost as a result of the “Headlee” reduction.

Shall the currently authorized millage limitation on the annual property tax previously approved by the electors of Jackson County Intermediate School District, Michigan, for the education of persons with disabilities be increased by .90 mill ($0.90 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period of 5 years, 2008 to 2012, inclusive (.8863 mill of the above is a renewal of millage that expired with the 2007 tax levy and .0137 mill is a restoration of millage which has been reduced as required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963); if approved, the estimate of the revenue the intermediate school district will collect the first year of levy, 2008, is approximately $4,000,000 from local property taxes authorized herein?
